Residual carbon refers to the coke-like residue that remains after the evaporation and thermal decomposition of oil samples under certain conditions without air circulation. It is a value related to the amount of soot generated during heavy oil combustion and the degree of coking. In lubricating oils, it serves as an indicator of refinement.
